Grandville traveled to East Kentwood High School for their first OK Red match-up of the season.  Grandville defeated East Kentwood in three sets: 25-15, 25-17, 25-13.  Grandville sits 1-0 in the OK Red Conference and 16-9-2 overall.

Set 1: Grandville got off to an early 10-3 lead after a 5 point serving streak by Freshman Reegan Loveland. Grandville's defense proved too strong and ready for Kentwood as they tried placing balls short over Grandvilles blockers.  Grandvilles lead continued at 17-9 after a crushing kill from Junior setter Kacie Stoneburner assisted by Sophomore middle hitter Cece Johnson.  "Running out of system balls with our middles when in their playing area has been something we have focused and worked on throughout the week, so to see it pay off during the first set really makes me proud of the team, showing they are not just going through the motions but implementing them." stated Coach Wierenga.  The set ended with a service ace shot over by Loveland.

Set 2: The set started out going back and forth, switching the point lead between Grandville and Kentwood 6 times, before Grandville took the final lead at 12-11 and never let Kentwood back in.  Grandville forced a hitting error which allowed Kentwood to become in range of a 2 point difference at 19-17, but was their last point scored of the set as Grandville played smart and aggressive at the net.  Sophomore Ola Nowak fired a kill shot down the line for point 20, Johnson placed a tip just perfectly to East Kentwoods left front position finding the hole, Nowak had a service ace for point 22, Johnson and Stoneburner put up a huge block for point 23, and two forced errors by East Kentwood ended the second set.

Set 3: Grandville started off with the first point scored with a dig by Senior Morgan Corey, up to Stoneburner, who placed it perfectly in Senior, Middle hitter, Sarah Ormes hand for a kill. Grandville's momentum continued as Corey served 9 straights service points, before the rally was ended.   Grandvilles defense was on their toes this set as East Kentwood attempted to place the ball any where that could possibly put the ball down and score a point, but Grandville was not letting a ball hit the floor.   "I've never seen our team play so scrappy and I'm liking it!" stated Wierenga.  Johnson had the final swing of the game as she attacked the ball to the right for the final kill of the set and match. "The teamwork that this team showed tonight was just incredible, this was by far one of their best performances overall." claimed Wierenga.
