The Grandville girls cross country team worked strong and tough through hot and humid races this Saturday at the Cougar-Falcon Invitational. Olivia McKellar (22:28) led the team again, placing in the top 50. Hailey Kempf (22:54) and Maddy Wolf (22:54) finished together, followed by another duo, Elise Ferguson (23:00) and Celia Kingscott (23:12).
The JV girls also had some strong performances despite the continually increasing temperatures, led by Sofia D’Arienzo (24:22), Loren Wilkie (24:55), Alex Webster (25:22), Maddi Sarber (25:35), and Natalie Lehmann (27:57).
In the freshman-only race, Bryana Andrade-Nava (27:35) led the way for Grandville, followed by Emily Piper (27:55), Hailey Buikema (29:49), Josie Callendar (33:45), and Grace Hargrove-Brown (33:51).
Even with the intense weather, we had some incredible personal achievements. Celia Kingscott and Lianna Cullin each ran to a personal best time, both by about 50 seconds each. Meanwhile Lindsay Keranen and Rose Meyer achieved season record times.
The girls look forward to racing again at the Otsego Invitational next Saturday, September 28.
